Grow Public Will
Project Sakinah knows that simply raising awareness of the issue is not enough.
Awareness comes and goes along with the latest crisis being trumpeted in the media.
Instead, we must develop in our communities the sustained public will for change.
The needs of families and youth often outstrip the resources of those who work to
help. For these direct service providers, often working on shoe-string budgets,
the situations they deal with can be emotionally overwhelming for the care-givers.
Not only is compassion fatigue an issue for caregivers, the community environments
in which they work are too often hostile to acknowledging the problems that exist.
In such a climate, it is vital to change the perceptions of the larger community
concerning the issues. Project Sakinah works to do this
- by actively Campaigning, on the ground, and through our web presence, concerning
issues that impact families. Our campaigns and outreach efforts have reached approximately
300,000 people since our public launch in 2011.
- by providing extensive information, ideas for getting started in addressing issues,
and encouraging individuals to team up with others through our website and online
presence. Make sure to visit us on
Facebook and join the active conversations
there!
- by supporting the formation of community organizations to raise awareness and support
for prioritizing and addressing the needs of our youth and families.
- by providing training and tools for community organizations and individuals interested
in teaming up with others and building a campaign in their community.
